Mr.

Director,
Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs
John
F. Kennedy School of Government
Dear
Dr. Allison:
I commend Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs for hosting the 7th Annual U.S.-Russian Investment Symposium. The Symposium has become a forum of choice for leaders in business and government seeking to gain a deeper understanding of Russia's investment climate, promote economic ties between our two countries, and, most importantly, establish new business relations.
The Department of Commerce recognizes the potential of the U.S.-Russia commercial relationship. We are working toward Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization, encouraging a beneficial energy cooperation, and promoting bilateral trade and investment relations. U.S. companies with investments in Russia are reporting that their sales are growing, potential markets are expanding, and they are planning to increase their activities. Your forum provides a platform for exploring new business deals.
I congratulate you on your good work in hosting this important event in the past, and I wish you success as you prepare for this year's gathering. I extend my best wishes also to Americans and Russians in their efforts to develop trade and investment projects. The Commerce Department is prepared to provide assistance through our U.S.-Commercial Service, Special American Business Internship Training Program, and Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States staff located across Russia.
I look forward to joining you at the 7th Annual U.S.-Russian Investment Symposium.
Sincerely,
Donald L. Evans
The Secretary of Commerce
Washington, D.C. 20230
